i just had lunch with a former student, who told me that he is no longer identifying as a republican. this is a kid who was a die-hard republican in 2008, someone who voted for mccain with gusto. i was speechless. he's an independent now, he says, because the republicans can't get anything done. "obama is just knocking things off his list - he's getting things done. i like it." we talked about the fiscal side of things, and he's not in love with obama's plans, "but," he said, "at least obama is going to pay for the programs he's setting up."
i know he's on his way to becoming a democrat. i can just feel it. and it makes me so happy.

ReplyDeletethis reminds me of the night at claire #2's cabin when we watched some primary returns come in during the '08 election, and erica and thomas said republican-y things together on one end of the couch while the rest of us screamed democrat-y things up close to the tv. :) oh, memories... love you both!
