i have a new favorite braves player. well, i guess i'm just adding him to the mix - i still really enjoy escobar and prado and mccann, but now i love watching jason heyward play, too. in fact, i think all of atlanta is in love with him. and here is why: in his first major league at bat he hit a home run (impossible not to smile while watching this clip). since then he's hit 6 more - he's tied for fourth in the national league - and has 23 RBIs, for fifth most in the NL. and he's 20 years old. and he's (i think) the only african-american player on a team in a city that is 60% african-american. we heart him A LOT.
if only the braves weren't 11-14. they won three in a row this weekend, though. i will focus on the positives.
Seeing them tomorrow against the Nationals! (But don't hate me if I cheer for the Nats...I've gradually moved away from the Braves ever since the Durham Bulls began farming for Tampa.)
ReplyDeletenora, i appreciate that your love of baseball all stems from a love of the durham bulls as a kid. just like college basketball is infinitely superior to the NBA in terms of fan enjoyment, the minor leagues are infinitely superior to the majors in the same way. good thing the braves don't get a huge number of fans, thus making tickets cheap and the experience more fun. :)
ReplyDeleteAGREED! Same goes with the Nats, although we dropped some cash to be a few rows back from the first base line. It was a fun game - we won, and got two home-runs in the process! Additionally, the pitcher last night looks approximately 12 years old. You know you're getting old when professional athletes look like babies to you.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, even though I was cheering for the Nats, I did have a slight crush on Heyward :)
